It Doesn't Count...

Toward the end of my senior year of high school, I realized that I had gone an entire week without caffeine (and I had a very strong relationship with Pepsi, so a week was an eternity at that time!) I decided at that moment that I would see how long I could possibly go without caffeine--as of Monday night it had been over 7 years.

Well, Monday night I was at a wish-granting meeting for the Make-A-Wish Foundation with two fabulous girls. During the meeting, the father randomly brought glasses of Diet Coke (another personal favorite) to us. What was I supposed to do--tell him that I just couldn't drink the pop? It was just caffeinated cola. So, I tried to act normal and drank about half the glass, while inside I was seriously in utter turmoil--part of me felt terrible that I had kind-of broken one of my longest-lasting challenges, but the other part loved the drink. It had been so long!

So, I decided, after an inner discussion, without consulting anyone else, that I really didn't break my 7-year record. I was being a polite house-guest and was simply trying to help the family feel comfortable and have fun during the meeting.

Does anyone agree with me?

FHE: Our Latest

Because Dane and I don't have any children of our own, and because we want to practice holding FHE even without kids, we team up with a few friends for our own little FHE group. With a crazy semester out of the way, we reconvened our Monday night meetings this last week. Boy, am I ready for a great summer before our Monday night tirades end--as one amazing couple heads to D.C. for school and the other fabulous couple prepares to welcome a new addition to their family!

Now, I spent a bit of time preparing for this Family Home Evening. Have you ever seen the television show "Minute to Win It?" I must say that watching one episode was enough for me, but the prospect of playing the games at home was quite exciting! I put together a little home-spun version of the game show for our group. The games provided plenty of laughs and went right along with the lesson on developing and sharing talents. We can always find a new talent within ourselves if we are looking and trying new things. Am I right? Cheesy, but right! (I had to hook the games in somehow.)

Here are a few pictures from one interesting night!

Had to Share

I have watched this video everyday this week. I find it so inspiring, and I can't help but feel excited to become a mother someday when I see this video. I am sure you have all seen this by now, but I am posting in anyway. It is good for the soul, and I will probably watch it again tomorrow, and the next day, and probably even the next day.

Don't forget to check out Stephanie's blog here. It is a daily must for me!

The Best App Ever

So, right now it is almost 1:00 am. You know when you get into the "late night" groove after just one fabulous really late night--and then on subsequent nights you don't even get tired until you really should have been sleeping hours before. Night after night you just don't want to go to bed until the wee hours of the morning. Well, I am there. Ug--not good. Hopefully I will get back into a "healthy" sleeping habit again soon. I am telling you, summer break from school is in full force at the Beorchia household!

To preface the reasoning behind the late nights, I have to tell you that Dane and I L-O-V-E music. I live and breathe music. As silly as this sounds, it is one thing that keeps me moving--without music, I just don't know what I would do. The Sucher family is all about music--it is bread into us! My sisters and I grew up with trivia questions from my dad, who would be the ultimate companion on "Rock N Roll Jeopardy." We spent night after night cuddled up next to Dad's stereo, playing records and listening to oldies. We couldn't get enough of the radio, 8 tracks, cd's. Oh, I get the chills just thinking about it! Now, maybe the reasoning behind staying up will make sense.

I happened upon an app for my phone that plays the top 100 hits from each year (full songs even) back to 1947. Isn't this a breakthrough!? Dane and I started with the year 1999 and listened to all 100 songs (most just briefly). Then we went back to 1998, and so on. We were just reliving our pasts together, telling each other stories and laughing our heads off. I mean, who wouldn't smile when they hear "Come on Ride that Train," a song that brings them back to middle school dances and the infamous "train" congo line. Needless to say, we have done this every night, and now I am in the habit of staying up late. I haven't been like this since my first year of marriage. Seriously! This would totally work, if my body would just believe I was a teenager again! I don't handle this "lack of sleep" too well!

Anyway, thanks for reading! It has been a while in the making! Now that school is out and a few things are calming down, I am back and ready to go. Happy spring!
